Current concerns regarding greenhouse gas-related environmental effects, energy security, and the rising costs of fossil fuel-based energy has renewed interest in solar energy in general and photovotaics in particular. Exploring state-of-the-art developments from a practical point of view, Nanotechnology for Photovoltaics examines issues in increasing efficiency, decreasing costs, and how these two goals can be achieved in a single photovoltaic device. It provides fundamental background and places research approaches within the proper physical context as related to photovoltaics performance enhancement.

The book reviews the applications of devices and their performance requirements, followed by coverage of thin films and advanced band structure concepts for obtaining efficiencies above the Shockley–Queisser single bandgap efficiency limit of ~31%. The editor and contributors also discuss the basic optical properties of nanostructured materials as related to photovoltaics applications and describes nanoscale optoelectronic device physics related to performance. They then explore recent literature in the application of various classes of nanostructures to photovoltaics. The book covers solar cells based on hybrid organic-inorganic nanocomposites structures, quantum wells, nanowires/tubes, and quantum dots. It also discusses the use of nanoparticles/quantum dots to enhance the performance of conventional solar cells and luminescent solar concentrators.

Each chapter summarizes the historical development for the nanostructure class under consideration, applications beyond photovoltaics, and the major synthetic methods, followed by a critique of leading works that have employed the particular nanostructure type. The book examines the advantages of each nanostructure approach and the remaining technical challenges, with an emphasis on possible future areas of research interest. It concludes with a summary of the major processing approaches and challenges of using the various nanostructures to photovoltaics applications, focusing on future scale-up and nanomanufactuting issues. Many books cover photovoltaics and many others nanotechnology ― it is the coverage of both in one resource that sets this book apart.

From Publishers Weekly
Not even Camp's ingenious wit is enough to redeem her latest romance, in which the devilishly handsome Earl of Dure is in search of a wife, any wife, for a marriage of convenience. The bright-eyed Charity Emerson decides to "sacrifice" herself in place of her shy older sister, who's in love with another man and had been designated the one to secure the family's financial future, a clever premise that is lost in a most predictable series of events. The childish reasoning and antics of the heroine are more foolish than fun and denote immaturity, not sensuality. She is certainly no match for the complex and somewhat jaded Earl.

WELL YOU CAN'T SATISFY EVERYONE --
By M. Hartmann
I found the story light hearted and naive, just like the young ladies of that era. Yes many time they act silly [in our views] but at least Charity Emerson was not a whiney, fainty kind of girl at 18.

Simon "Devil" Dure has inherited the Earldom on the death of his brother [never quite explained] but is protecting his emotions from being ravaged again by love. He blames himself for the death of his young wife but now must procure an heir.

He is on the verge of offering for Selena Emerson, the eldest of the Emerson girls who happens to love a lowly reverand. Not the marriage to the pastor, her mother, Caroline invisions for her. The Emerson's need someone with money in order to bring out the younger girls, Elspeth, Horatia, and Belinda.

I loved the simplicity of Charity's idea of approaching Simon Dure in his own home [which of course, is not done] - Dure is taken aback that this child/woman had the audacity to come to his establishment. He is entrigued by her arguments that he should marry her and not her sister.

She actually brings laughter and amusement into Dure's life. He is finding it hard to adhur to the year long engagement as she unwittingly sends his desire into overdrive. Shall we say that he gets a bit hot around her?

We meet Venetia, his sister who is being blackmailed by Faraday Reed, who considers himself quite a ladies man. And then there is the foolish Mrs. Theodora Graves, who deludes herself that Dure would marry her.

Oh, we can't forget the mutt of a dog, Lucky and guess what Charity brings home? Churchill, the funny little monkey who stirs up a lot of trouble.

Yup! Dure is finding it hard to resist Charity and her kisses and she does take advantage of the man and his weaknesses. She is not afraid to get down and dirty and play with her sisters or seduce Dure.

I don't care for 400 page stories but this just keeps leading you on - couldn't stop reading and was not in a hurry [as in some books] to get to the end.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --m You may want to read this one again.

1996 book reissued in 2010 and it shows its age.
By OLT
I like Candace Camp so I picked up this book. When I got into the story I realized I had read this plot so very many times before in romance novels written by so very many authors. There are even bits in this I've read in old Georgette Heyer books (e.g., the heroine's penchant for rescuing strays, whether they be animals or mistreated children). Now a lot of the books with similar plots have been written since 1996 when this SUDDENLY was first issued so I'm not saying Camp is plagiarizing, by any means. It's just that the plot is so "been-there, done-that". The good thing about this book is that Camp has managed to make this heroine appealing, not annoying, and the hero is, of course, sexy but decent, as we like heroes to be. The villainess, hero's cast-aside mistress, is pretty annoying and predictable, as is the evil rake of a villain. On the whole, however, if one considers the publication date of 1996 it is a satisfactory read. Probably a reader younger than I, who hasn't read so many historical romances, will like this.

Despite the flaws in the storyline, I liked lead's romance
By Melissa
There are a few problems with Candace Camp's novel Suddenly and yet I could not help but like it. This novel was written fourteen years ago, and it shows but there is still something sweet about the romance between the leads.

Charity Emerson loves her sister, Serena, so when her parents try to coerce Serena into a marriage to the Earl of Dure, Charity steps in to save the day. She offers herself to Dure as substitute bride and he is quick to say yes as Charity is beautiful and charming.

Charity is young, only eighteen and she acts like it. She is hopelessly nave, so much so that she is completely unaware of sinister actions around her. One glaring problem in this plot is both Charity and her mother welcome a married man to call and escort Charity about town. No proper mother would allow her engaged daughter to spend so much time with a married man. Fortunately, some of Charity's nave actions resolve themselves before the end of the novel.

Charity and Dure agree to a loveless marriage. Dure is still smarting from his first wife's death and does not want to open himself to more heartache but he quickly sees that Charity is determined to bring her sunny disposition to his somewhat staid life.

The middle portion of this novel really slows down and that's because there is little action occurring between Charity and Dure. He keeps his distance emotionally and physically. Meanwhile Charity is bent on defying Dure's commands to stay away from an old enemy. He does not explain his motives at first and this just causes the young Charity to dig in her heels.

The last half of the book is much better. Here the action picks up thanks to secondary characters that fill in many of the blanks for Charity. Finally she sees why Dure's warnings are not just ridiculous demands. Also she matures fairly quickly when her fianc faces gossip and legal trouble. Charity is at her best when she is fiercely loyal and protective of Dure. Too often heroines are not loyal to the hero, but Charity never wavers in her faith and I immensely admired her character's stalwart belief in her hero.

Dure experiences real joy with Charity. Her sweet, honest nature is refreshing and Ms. Camp does a good job of letting the reader see how much these protagonists like each other. Both leads are at their best when they share scenes, however they are not great detectives and Charity especially is no Nancy Drew. Her lack of discernment really leads her in the wrong directions when hunting for clues.

So even though there are some issues with this novel (Charity's immaturity being one along with a slow middle portion) I still enjoyed it. I liked how Charity really stood her ground when it came to Dure, she was supportive and selfless. The plot of this novel rates around 2.5 stars but Charity's loyalty and Dure's noble nature bump this up to a 4 star read.

Not sure what to think
By Angelica
Reading this I wasn't sure if this was meant to be a love story or a tale about one person's homophobia, as it seemed more a story discouraging same sex relationships rather than one of acceptance. I don't recommend it.

Not really what I expected
By Pinkdiamond
This wasn't a bad manga, but the truth is I'm used to reading yaoi as oppose to BL, which this clearly was. If you're a fan of the genre itself, you already know the difference (yaoi is a bit more edgy and hardcore; BL is more romance centered and less vulgar) and if you prefer something a bit tamer, I suppose you'll be satisfied with this story. But, honestly, there really wasn't much in the way of romance in this either.

The uke (submissive) in this story clearly wanted nothing to do with the one pursuing him. Even when he finally acknowledged feeling "something" for him, he still couldn't come to grips with it and there really didn't seem to be a happy ending for this one. I mean, he came out in his own way, but he was clearly ashamed of it.

Plot wise, the story was pretty linear. It tells you right on the book cover what its about - a boy runs into an attractive photographer and makes a bet that he doesn't win and now has to let the photographer photograph him, inadvertently sparking an interest in both the photographer and in photography itself.

Really, that's it. You do learn where his fear of homosexuality comes from, but it really doesn't add anything to the original content of the story. Either way, I think my lackluster interest isn't so much because of the credibility of the author, but just because I picked up something I thought would be a little more racier and it wasn't.

I'm sort of out growing my addiction to yaoi in general, but Yamila Abraham is the absolute best. As long as she continues to put stuff out, I will always read it.

Homophobic HS Student's Dilemna
By Tar Larner
A series of non-explicit short story's centered on a teen's crazy life where his girlfriend wants him to have a boyfriend, his younger brother is dating his elder's cross-dressing classmate, his best friend is afraid to tell him he's attracted to him, and as a result, he hates all "homos." Slowly (very) he is confronts his homophobia as his basically good nature asks why he acts that way.

a poem imagined through the awed eyes of a child just born into this world is simply one of the greatest poems ever written
By Tom Randall
Another revision of this classic anthology that expertly covers so much of English Literature. I still have the two volume set from the early 60s.

Now I know that there are favorites that have been left out thus enraging some readers. And yes, I know not everything can be included. But let me list two poets who should be known to anyone studying English literature. The first is Louis MacNeice who has been included in past editions. His poems are filled with imaginative use of image, solemnity, and humor.

The second is Thomas Traherne, one of the metaphysical poets. Traherne was largely unknown in his life time and was subsequently forgotten for over two hundred years before being rediscovered around the beginning of the 20th century. One hundred years later he's still being ignored. His poems of innocence are incredibly moving. "The Salutation", a poem imagined through the awed eyes of a child just born into this world is simply one of the greatest poems ever written. No qualifications are necessary. Please do yourself a favor and listen to Gerald Finzi's setting of this and other poems of Traherne. What a gorgeous and moving composition. The piece is titled, "Dies Natalis". "A stranger here, strange things doth meet, strange Glory see, strange treasures lodg'd in this fair World appear, strange all and New to me: but that they mine should be who Nothing was, that Strangest is all; yet brought to pass."
Res ipsa loquitur.

Great Intro Source for Eng Lit
By CodaCreator
Norton is well-established in its delivery of quality literature text books. I've used countless in my degree program. This one, the Major Authors, holds no surprises for anyone even fleetingly familiar with the study of English Lit. What it does do is provide thoughtful and informative introductions and explanatory material for the works included, as well as access to ebooks and study materials through a companion website. The supplemental materials help with perspective and a deeper understanding of the authors and their works. I've read others--but Norton really is the King of Lit (also used American Lit and African American Lit books from Norton). The set was available through my college bookstore, but Amazon saved me both time and money--both things that students never seem to have enough of. Thanks, Amazon!

Mounce Greek and English Interlinear New Testament
By Leon M. Roberts
This is an excellent tool for seminary students and faculty as well as bible college level Greek students. I use this for bible study and sermon preparation and to complete seminary projects. It saves steps by giving you the Strong's numbers and lexicon references which saves time. This is an excellent work which every serious scholar would want to have in their library, however, I hesitate to suggest its use to lay people who have not had any formal Greek training. For those with no background in biblical Greek, try William Mounce's "Greek For The Rest of Us" and also mounces other textbooks and workbooks as well.

The best interlinear I've ever used
By Jonathan Blocher
I have owned at least four interlinear New Testaments over the last forty years, and this is by far the most useful. I am only a dilettante in Greek (two years in college 1973-74), so I need all the help I can get. As others have mentioned, the parsing guides, and the G/K numbers coupled with the lexicon support my amateurish attempts to use the Greek. Parallel columns with the literal NASB and the rather paraphrastic NIV offer alternate renderings. It's dangerous to draw doctrinal conclusions from the Greek at my level of fluency, but this is a terrific tool that I can use to check other expositor's claims about the original language of the New Testament.

Great Study Resource
By Mark Smith
This interlinear is great for what it is...a study resource. It is not meant to be lugged around and taken to church. It is meant to sit on your desk and study. As such it includes the GK numbers for each Greek word, and each Greek word is parsed. It is meant for a person who is either really serious about their Bible despite having no Greek training, or someone who has a little understanding of the Greek language, but not enough to pop open a Greek New Testament and start reading.

The Greek font is wonderful compared to the old style you see in other interlinears, and the page does not feel cluttered, despite the fact that it is fully used.

Get and enjoy!
Jesus IS Lord.

Very disappointed, by the price for information ratio
By John Trombley
The only thing I "gleaned" from this was that Larry Scott's retirement paved the way for Arnold. Turned out to be more of an advertisement for other books and products than anything else. Very disappointed, by the price for information ratio. Not enough "meat" for me.

“Since the publication of A Woman of Substance, Bradford has set the bar for what a saga should be: sweeping, fascinating, and dramatic. She’s done it again in this wonderful series with a cast of strong, loving women…The power and emotion of Bradford’s novel comes through on every page.” –Romantic Times (4 stars) on The Cavendon Women

“True love conquers all and loyalty reigns supreme in Bradford’s dishy continuation of the Cavendon saga.” –Kirkus Reviews on The Cavendon Women

“There is just enough historical detail to evoke the era and add the color readers savor, but it is the remarkable characters readers will carry in their hearts.” -RT Book Reviews on The Cavendon Women

“First there was A Woman of Substance . . . and now from the same author comes an evocative and captivating story, filled with fascinating and compelling characters, drama, intrigue, love, passion, and revenge . . . Vintage storytelling from ‘Britain's premier romantic novelist.’" ―Daily Mail on Cavendon Hall

“A master at wonderfully detailed, inspiring sagas…Bradford completely captures the atmosphere of the country and the ordinary families caught in the struggle. Readers will rejoice and eagerly await the sure to follow sequel.” –Romantic Times (4 stars) on Cavendon Hall

"Cavendon Hall is such fun to read…You will become absolutely immersed in the lives of the Ingham and Swann families. You'll love the kind and decent Earl of Mowbray, adore the four daughters, respect the Swann family and their loyalty, and fall in love with dashing cousin Hugo. These are characters that draw you in.” –Examiner.com on Cavendon Hall

"Every novel from this acclaimed and beloved author is avidly read, and its engrossing historical dimension, family traumas, romance, and vivid setting will prove irresistible."―Booklist on Letters from a Stranger

A Truly Remarkable Book!
By loves2read50
This Book is third in a wonderful series by an Amazing Author! War, Family, love, loss, and Happiness are all combined in this incredible book! I found myself rooting for, and identifying with these characters. It was so hard for me to not spend all my time reading this book, yet I savored it, and was so sad when it ended! Emma Harte also made some brief appearances in this book too!

Disappointing
By Shoe Diva
BTB is one of my favorite authors of all time. Having said this, I was truly disappointed with this novel. A confusing array of characters, something I never have a problem with until this novel. Way to much war detail that went on and on. I hung in there but could not wait to finish. Nothing beats Woman of Substance.

Ok but so wordy...
By paulette partin
The story line grabs your interest from the beginning but the telling of it bogs down. It just bumbles along with huge passages of flowery descriptive sections. Your eyes will just glaze over...not a good read. Mrs P
