This book does an excellent job introducing developers to the world of ABAP

Learning how to develop applications using ABAP technology can be quite a challenge. Unlike other mainstream languages out there (e.g. Java, Python, etc.), learning ABAP is not as simple as downloading an SDK, pick up a book, and start coding through examples in a weekend. Indeed, before you ever start coding in ABAP, you must have at least a basic understanding of the AS ABAP platform, the proprietary development tools SAP uses, and so forth.

Though there are many books out there written about ABAP, I’ve yet to encounter a starting guide as cohesive as Getting Started with ABAP. This book does an excellent job introducing developers to the world of ABAP, blending basic ABAP language concepts with practical use cases, best practices, and perhaps most importantly, context. By context, I’m referring to those elements of ABAP which have changed over the years but still show up in legacy code (and sadly new code written using out-of-date practices). For new developers, it’s vital to have this background to be able to learn ABAP the right way and not pick up bad habits.

Like many consulting firms out there looking to grow their team, I’m always on the lookout for materials to help our developers quickly come up to speed in ABAP. This is especially true now as more and more developers flood into the SAP development landscape to support newer technologies such as SAPUI5/Fiori, HCP, and HANA. In our case, we’re usually dealing with seasoned developers who are just new to ABAP. For us, this guide is a perfect launching point for getting new developers plugged in. It’s concise, informative, accessible, and reads well (not like some of those regurgitated manuals you see out there). So, if you’re looking to get started in ABAP, I strongly recommend you give this book a try.

Best way to start with ABAP

I started in the ABAP world around 16 years ago...and my first thought after seeing an R/3 screen was "I want to work for that company"...of course...my second thought was "This ABAP looks so weird"...anyway...after 11 years I managed to work for ABAP and funnily enough...for the almost 5 years that I have working with them...I have barely touched ABAP...

ABAP is a language that I truly love and admire...it's just awesome...

When I got my myself the chance of reading this book I was completely trilled...just an opportunity to go back to my roots and learn ABAP for the second time...

This book is just awesome...I wish it was available by the time I was learning ABAP...it explains everything in a very simple and concise way...focusing on the important stuff and as a bonus...you get to build a really nice project that involves most of the things that would use if working for a client...

Obviously...being an ABAP veteran myself...I knew most the stuff...but I gladly discovered some new features that are really cool...and now I'm glad that I know them and could use if I have the change to write new ABAP applications...

If you have never heard of ABAP but are curious...or if you're just starting on this fascinating book...you should really...and I mean really...read this book...

Like any other of Amy Tan's books, this book focuses on the contrast between traditional Chinese culture and the liberal life of first generation Asian-Americans. The book has significant historical references in it that help contribute to the liablity of the book. The book focuses on the relationship of Pearl and her mother, Winnie. The book showed how some Chinese men, during World War II, were very dominate over their wives. The book tended to get lengthy at times referring to irrelevent topics. The book could have just as well without.

It is a very moving novel.

The novel, "The Kitchen God's Wife," has an excellent story which leads the reader to become emotionally or directly involved with the main characters in the novel. The way it is written in first person gives an insight into Chinese married life which many people may not have known. The great miseries which the main characters undergo hit the reader right in the heart, so it is clear to see why I have found this book so enjoyable. Truly an excellent novel.

About the Author
Bert Witzel is currently the principal double bass of the Louisville Orchestra in Louisville, KY. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, he received a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance. Bert has performed on several international orchestra tours and continues to perform throughout the country at music festivals and other orchestras. Bert loves to teach the double bass and teaches private lessons at his home and at Bellarmine University.

Simply the best

This scale book is the first thing I open every morning when I start my daily practice. I'm returning to studying the bass in my sixties and I appreciate how this book is simple and straightforward. I use other books to study technique, but for getting warmed up, and doing my daily intonation work, there is nothing better than Bert Witzel's scales book.

A terrific guide which blends single positions and pivot practice. As a principal bass player, Bert has mastered the art of fingerings which support both a melodic solo voice, as well as fingerings which are more useful in orchestral playing. For instance, the bassist is encouraged to use fingering patterns such as 4 to 4, 4 to 2, 4 to 1, 2 to 4, 2 to 2 ....... whatever is possible it's in here. Furthermore, the book teaches the left hand to travel both horizontally and vertically. Lastly, if you're a string player then you need a scales regimen. If you don't have any regimen then get this book. If you do have a regimen, then get this book and improve upon the regimen that you do have. Of course it is your choice ... you could leave this book on the shelf and just keep playing out of tune if you'd like.

This book has all the scales and arpeggios in every major and minor key, for one, two and three octaves-it's so nice to have these all in one place. I only wish I had found this sooner.

I am totally new to statistics, but I need to learn it for my research. One option is to read scattered information on the internet, but that really is time consuming. I started reading another book as introduction to medical statistics, it had good reviews, but it lacked of comprehensible explanations, maybe it was good as refresher material.
This book is really great, it is as it states written in plain english, easy to understand. The author did a great effort taking time to really explain with examples concepts that would otherwise be hard to understand.

Highly recommended for basic understanding of statistics. It will not, however, help you learn to use SPSS or other statistics software, nor will it help you "choose" which analysis you should conduct. For that you will need other material!

Good stories/legends that offer insight into the tribal background of people not many have heard of. One of my aunts said that she and her husband were scuba diving in the lake the whale was in (Fish Lake), and that they found a very deep hole/tunnel that they didn't explore because it was too creepy. I think it is a very interesting place, and I am very happy to finally have my own copy of this book.
