This thick volume collects some of the finest Carl Barks Uncle Scrooge stories, with several episodes featuring the zany sorceress, Magica De Spell, who is obsessed with stealing "old number one," the first dime Uncle Scrooge ever earned, which she believes is the magical source of his unmeasurable wealth. Barks created Magica specifically to be an arch-nemesis for the irascible Uncle Scrooge, and she is certainly one of the most entertaining characters in the Duckburg universe. This volume contains six stories featuring Magica, including her first appearance in 1961, "The Midas Touch." All the stories are great fun -- great family entertainment.

"The Unsafe Safe" (1962) - also reprinted in the "Duck Tales" anthologies)
"For Old Dime's Sake" (1963)

This is a big comic album, Uncle Scrooge #6 from Gladstone Comics Album series in 1989, when they first started reprinting the classic Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge stories by Carl Barks who drew Disney duck stories from the 1940's to 1960's. This over-sized graphic novel series featured high quality reprints, freshly colored from the original art on nice thick paper. This book collects all the stories that Barks wrote about the battles between Uncle Scrooge and evil sorceress Magica De Spell, a character created by Barks. Once again Barks creates a character so unique he can draw on them in future stories, and as a character so many of them were used by later Duck artists. Her obsession with Uncle Scrooge's lucky dime is legend. In this book we have:

1) "The Midas Touch" first published in Dell Comics Uncle Scrooge issue #36 of December 1961. This 17 page story represents the first appearance of uncle Scrooge's nemesis, the female sorceror Magica De Spell. Script & art by Barks.
2) "The Unsafe Safe" first printed Dell Comics Uncle Scrooge issue #38 from June 1962. A 19 page story, Magica Spell returns to find that Scrooge is using an indestructible glass to keep his money bin safe. The Beagle Boys also make an appearance. Art & script by Barks.
3) "For Old Dime's Sake" first printed Gold Key Comics Uncle Scrooge #43 in July 1963. At 18 pages long, Magica De Spell uses her magic wand to show her mastery over comets.
4) "The Many Faces Of Magica De Spell" Gold Key Comics Uncle Scrooge #48 from March 1964. 22 pages long, Magica De Spell has a potion that can change a face, allowing her to impersonate anyone. Art & script by Barks.
5) "Rug Riders In The Sky" first published in Gold Key Comics Uncle Scrooge #50 from July of 1964. 16 page story, includes the return of Magica, a flying carpet and the mythical giant bird the Roc.
6) "Raven Mad" from Gold Key Comics Walt Disney Comics and Stories #265, from October of 1962. 10 page story, script and art by Barks. Magica De Spell puts a hypnotic spell on the nephews pet raven, convincing it to put Uncle Scrooge's lucky dime on the tip of a space rocket.

Can't Beat Barks

As an avid reader, even at a young age I recognized the superiority of Barks' work over that of other Duck artists. It has been delightful to be able to share these gems with my kids!

My 7 year old in particular is crazy for the Magica De Spell stories and it's so convenient to have these in one volume, all together and ready for bedtime story hour.

Really Helpful

As someone who's used the old 2003 program for years, I picked up a copy of this book to better understand Word 2010. Although it was created for 2013 programs, it's still really helpful for us luddites who are still adapting from pull-down menus to the ribbon system. Now that I've used the newer programs for a few weeks, I like it. Word 2010 is a big improvement, especially if you work with it and Excel regularly. The 2013 updates offer more flexibility without mind-boggling changes.

Office 2013 for Dummies is an easy, comprehensive read with plenty of excellent tips and useful screen shots for those of us who appreciate visual aides. The book works best if you're actually trying some of new options while reading the how-to steps, especially when working with Excel. I've never had to prepare a PowerPoint presentation, and although I can't say I'm ready to do one just by reading the PowerPoint chapters, it definitely takes the mystery out of how it works. The tips on controlling junk mail are great as well. Whether you have a new home PC or are returning to the work force, keep this book by your side for quick reference. It will really help!

For an experienced user of earlier Word versions, I was disappointed in the lack of information on details, such as setting defaults, finding topics that now require the use of several function keys, .a more detailed index to find information, etc. Illustrations are too small and unclear to be useful.

I bought this book along with the CD; I've used the CD more than the book but am glad that I bought both. In my opinion, all Dummies books are amazing and well written. Without using complicated terms, they explain what you need to know.

Superb technical book

Don't be put off by the word "Testing" in the title - there is an emphasis on RF and protocol test aspects of the UE, but this book would still be very useful to someone who is involved with general UE development/support/testing rather than just those digging into the depths of PTCRB testing, for example.

Highlights:

- Physical layer
- Layer 2
- Layer 3
- Protocol testing
- HSDPA
- Future directions
- Guide to useful 3GPP technical specs, reasonably helpful index (as opposed to some early Wiley UMTS books)

The real highlight for me is the standard of technical writing: lucid, brief but not too terse, and - where I can tell - correct. I use this as my main UMTS technical reference for UE and air interface descriptions and supplement with other books for CN. As a bridge to the standards it works very well and is well worth the investment.

About the Author
David Clark was born June 1952 in Croydon, a London suburb. After winning a scholarship to Christ's College in Cambridge, he received his B.A. in 1973. In 1977, he got his PhD from Bristol University for work on antibiotic resistance. He then left England for postdoctoral research at Yale and then the University of Illinois. He joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University in 1981 and is now a professor in the Microbiology Department. In 1991 he visited Sheffield University, England as a Royal Society Guest Research Fellow. His research into the genetics and regulation of bacterial fermentation has been funded by the U.S. Department of Energy from 1982 till the present. He has published over 70 articles in scientific journals and graduated over 20 master s and PhD students. He is unmarried and lives with two cats, Little George, who is orange and Ralph who is mostly black and eats cardboard.

Not simple, but pretty FUN!!!

Book arrived in EXCELLENT condition and was a great value for the price! Fun and comedic presentation, but such that it makes it easier to remember/comprehend. LOTS of illustrations of almost every topic/procedure. Medium in "depth" of subject; very useful, but not comprehensive. Some topics presented were a little "dated", but admittedly that is the nature of Mol Bio since it is changing so rapidly. I would definitely suggest it as a secondary resource; a supplement to your regular textbook OR as a pretty easy read if you are just curious about the subject.

Great introductory book, but beware of paper quality in 3rd ed

As the title says it,it is a great book. The book is so well written. I fist came across this book online and borrowed the second edition from the library. I am an electrochemist and I thoroughly enjoy and understand this book. If you want to learn about molecular biology, where the science is going etc., this is a good book to start with. If you are into investing and would like to understand a bit about what the nerdy scientists are talking about, this book will armor you with that knowledge.

Having said that, I recently bought the third edition and have to say that I am not satisfied with the quality. For $50, we get a book which looks like one of those eastern pirated copies. There are no margins in the book to make notes. The paper quality is so bad that you can see the back page contents while reading and it is annoying. If I were you, I would save money and buy the second edition instead. The second edition has pretty much the same content. I would return this book if Amazon were to refund the entire money!

Most excellent introduction to molecular biology and especially genetics IMHO.

This book fit my expectations perfectly. I'm an IT guy working at a biotech, looking to become familiar with subject matter in which I need to help design supporting databases. I'm also just in possession of an inquisitive mind! It covered a reasonably large amount of material in molecular biology and especially genetics at a layman's level. You won't need an extensive background and knowledge in organic chemistry, biology, physiology, etc. to comprehend the material. It isn't filled with mathematical equations and chemical formulae. Instead, it contains a lot of helpful illustrations. The author has thoughtfully highlighted key words so I don't have to, and repeated the definitions of these key words in the margins. I would leave it to more knowledgeable experts in the field to assess just how deep the material really is. IMO though, if you're looking for a good introductory read that seems to go fairly deep down the rabbit hole, but is easy-to-read all the way down, then I highly recommend this book.
